Done and Done!
Well, kind of… Okay so her room is still a work in progress, but are they ever really done? With my current energy level of negative 100 right now, I just haven’t had the energy to help my husband with projects like usual. And although we did make great progress, we still have some overall cosmetic touch ups to make like, new baseboards, crown molding, popcorn ceiling removal, ceiling fan replacement, new doors, curtains–you know, just a few minor things (sigh). Check out the video below for Sisi’s big birthday reveal, and for before pictures! Happy birthday to my beautiful girl! Click here for my previous post on Sisi’s big room makeover.
Anyone else out there have a throw pillow obsession? My husband is ready to throw me out the window whenever I bring home or purchase a new decorative pillow. Ha! He cannot comprehend why we even need them in first place due to the fact that I yell at him whenever he lays his head on one. To me, throw pillows give that final touch, and that last pop of detail to finalize your home.
So here is why I am a crazy person when it comes to throw pillows…
5 Reasons to Love Throw Pillows
I like to furnish with neutral colors purposely so I always have the flexibility to change my accent colors. I’ve been known to change up my home decor time to time. So when this happens, it’s not the end of the world financially because all I’m having to change out are accent pieces and throw pillows.
There are so many accents and statements you can make with pillows. They are great when you are looking to break up monotony on your sofa, or on your bed.
Pillows can also dress up bare corners and empty oversized baskets. Often when I have an empty space that needs that certain something, I dress it up with a basket, or one of my antique galvanized oversized bins. Stuff these with a few pillows, and you have a new occupied space!
You can easily play off of your accent colors by adding complimentary colors. This will often add more depth and detail to your focal point–it will also take away the predictably of your color scheme.
Throw pillows can make sentimental statements. I have gone through Etsy to order personalized pillows marked with me and my husband’s wedding date and initials. I even DIY’d a few initial name pillows to avoid crazy costs.
So there you have it! Justification as to why your home needs an overload of pillows. When shopping for home statement pieces, I usually check with Pottery Barn first to see if I can find lookalikes on Amazon and Target (Target has some great deals right now… see here). For my personalized pillows, I go to Etsy or Pinterest for my DIY inspiration. Take a look below at my current faves, and more I have on my wishlist. Just don’t tell the hubs–haha!
Get ready everyone! I will be adding a new vertical on the blog, and that is home decor! If
you think about it, I’m not really straying too far from fashion, home decor is really just fashion for your home! I’m not sure what it is, maybe I’m entering the nesting phase of my pregnancy, or maybe I’m getting burnt out of taking blogging photos–or could it be both? who knows… However, I do know that I’m pretty excited to showcase something new on my site!
The Birthday Girl
Luckily, my mini me doesn’t really keep up with my blog–she’s too engulfed in her tween-ager life. But she does have a birthday coming up soon at the end of February, and we’ve decided to give her a fabulous room makeover instead of a birthday party. My little Sassy Pop is growing up too fast, and I think it’s about time we weed out the Hello Kitty takeover in her bedroom and upgrade to a bit more of a pre-teen, sophisticated look.
As I browsed online for room inspiration, I came across a look on Pinterest that I
just couldn’t get enough of. It was the Pottery Barn Teen’s ‘Emily & Meritt Bed Of Roses Duvet.’ This mix of shabby and contemporary elements was love at first click, but I was quickly brought back to reality when I saw the price tags on everything. I started to become discouraged, but then I thought about finding alternate pieces and lookalikes to still get the same look. Well, I actually had a ton of luck with sites like, Amazon Home and Wayfair. I wasn’t as lucky with finding a similar duvet, so I went ahead and bought the actual Pottery Barnduvet and sham. However, as for the rest of the bed, see what I found below.
I think I’m off to a great start! Keep checking back for more of her room additions, a few DIY projects, and of course, the big reveal!
If you’ve been following me on Instagram and Snapchat (@snafierce), you’ll know that I’m here with the fam for a quick little getaway in Austin, Texas. Off of the very popular, South Congress Ave., we found a cool antique shop by the name of Uncommon Objects. Inside, I found this amazing wall and was inspired. My husband HATES it, but I LOVE it, so it’s happening! I’ve linked some of these authentic Deer Skulls below as well just in case you too are inspired.
I’ll keep you guys posted on my inspired wall of skulls!
